CHST 682 - Is God On Our Side? Religion and U.S. Politics3 credits This seminar tracks the rise of the Christian Right in the second half of the twentieth century by giving attention to the complex entanglements of politics, economics, and popular media with religious and theological ideas and practices. The course deepens our understanding of the recent history of the U.S. by examining how versions of right-wing Christianity shape and reflect notions of national identity, purpose, and mission. Course may be repeated. Prerequisite: CHST 503 or its equivalent. Signature of instructor required for registration.
